Happy New Year and a January Challenge!

With two recent awards and recognition for my Watercolors by Laura Trevey blog comes a surge of inspiration and enthusiasm for what comes next! I have posted A Painting a day for 1 month twice on this blog, but this time I wanted to try something new and different. In 2011 - for the month of January, I challenge YOU to paint along with me! Even if you do not paint every day, be sure to share the days you have something to show. I will set up link parties so you can share your paintings linking back to your blog. See you tomorrow!
This will be a great jump start into 2011 and I am excited to see what YOU come up with. Artists learn from each other, so I am hoping to learn a lot from this experience.
as well as many prints!

Honeysuckle ~ Pantone 2011 Color of the Year

Stop the show! Pantone just announced
As you can see in my watercolor paintings, it is one of my favorites. Visit Bright Bold and Beautiful for some decorating ideas for your room when choosing Honeysuckle for your paint color.
“In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Honeysuckle derives its positive qualities from a powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum.”

Selling Your Art ~ Presentation is Everything

So you have decided to sell your art or craft, great! The next step is to present your beautiful creations in a pleasing way. You have heard the saying, "Presentation is Everything". Well, this is true. Once each painting is finished, I spend a lot of time making sure that the artwork is protected and beautifully packaged for sale.
1. Each painting or print is mounted on a white foam core board and sealed in a clear plastic sleeve for protection.
(I purchase these in bulk from clearbags.com)
2. Be sure to place your business card or stamp on the back with your website for potential return customers.
3. Take good photos. This is extremely important if you are selling your work online. Not only have a photo of the item, but also give an example of the item framed, and how it will look in the packaging upon arrival.
4. When ready to ship, print professional labels with your logo and business name. Wrap the item in seasonal tissue. I like winter blues and whites or reds and greens for the holidays. Always include a thank you card and business card.
For mailers, I order recycled cardboard boxes from Staples.com which are nice and sturdy and very clean and professional looking.
